Ask NetSuite a question in plain English and get the answer in seconds. Here's how to connect Claude to NetSuite safely — slowly, clearly, with nothing skipped.
THE TAKEAWAY
You can connect Claude to NetSuite with a small, safe key — never the Administrator — so your team asks questions in plain words and gets answers. Start read-only, and every action is logged.
Right now, getting an answer out of NetSuite takes work. You build a report, wait, fix the columns, and do it again. This changes that — now you just ask.
You ask a question in plain words. Claude reads your NetSuite and gives you the answer back in seconds. This guide walks the whole setup slowly and clearly, with nothing skipped.
Two things keep it safe
Claude only ever sees what you let it see — and it can never log in as the Administrator. That door is shut on purpose.
What you need first
Check these five things before you start.
A paid Claude plan
The free plan can't do this — you need Pro or higher.
A NetSuite login
A test account (Sandbox) is the safest place to start.
An admin, once
Someone with full access helps with the first setup. After that, you don't need them.
No HIPAA agreement
If you're a healthcare company with a signed HIPAA (BAA), this isn't allowed yet — ask your NetSuite contact.
A clear choice
Decide what data Claude may see — and whether it may change anything at all.
Set it up — Part 1, in NetSuite
An admin does Part 1 once. You do Part 2. Take it one step at a time.
01
Turn on three switches
Go to Setup → Company → Enable Features → the SuiteCloud tab. Turn on Server SuiteScript, OAuth 2.0, and REST Web Services.
02
Add the toolkit
Install the free MCP Standard Tools SuiteApp, like any other app. Think of it as the box of tools Claude will use.
03
Make a safe key
Go to Setup → Users/Roles → Manage Roles → New. A role is just a key — it opens some doors, not all. Under Permissions → Setup add: MCP Server Connection; Log in using OAuth 2.0 Access Tokens (not the one that just says “Log in using Access Tokens”); and REST Web Services. Then add only the data you want Claude to see — nothing extra.
04
Give the key to the person
Open that person's record, go to the Access tab, and add the new role.
05
Copy the web address
This is where Claude connects (below). Put your account number where it says <accountid> — your admin has it.
Never use the Administrator key
Make a brand-new, smaller role instead. NetSuite will not let Claude use the Administrator login — that's on purpose, and it's a good thing.
In Claude, go to Search and tools → Add connectors → the Web tab. Pick NetSuite and click Connect.
07
Paste the address
Paste the web address from step 5, then click Continue.
08
Log in
Go to Search and tools → Manage connectors, find NetSuite, click Connect, log in with your new key, and click Allow.
09
Test it
Open a new chat, turn the NetSuite connector on, and type: “List the financial reports I can see.” If a list comes back, you're done.
Try it
The clearer you ask, the better the answer — ask like you'd ask a sharp analyst.
—Run last quarter's income statement. Tell me what changed.
—Which customers have owed us money for more than 60 days?
—Compare this month's costs to our budget. Show the three biggest gaps.
—Find purchase order 10482 and draft a short note to the vendor.
One small tip
Got more than one company or currency? Just say which — for example, “for the UK company” or “all companies together.”
Stay safe
Claude is fast and helpful. It can also be wrong. Six simple rules — none of them hard:
—Check the money. Before you trust any number that matters — a close, a report, anything money-related — verify it yourself. Let Claude write the first draft; you sign off.
—Start with reading only. Allow changes later, and only if you truly need them.
—Keep the key small. Open a few doors, not all — add more only when you must.
—Peek at the log. NetSuite records what Claude did; review it now and then.
—It only sees what you allow — nothing more.
—Know the limit — this isn't available for HIPAA accounts yet.
If something goes wrong
PROBLEM
WHAT TO DO
No tools show up
The key is missing a permission, or it wasn't given to you. Re-check steps 3 and 4.
It won't connect as Administrator
That's normal. Use your new key, not the Administrator one.
No data came back
Make the dates wider, or pick the right company or time period.
“Permission denied”
The key can't see that yet. Add that permission to the key.
Can't find the connector in Claude
You need a paid Claude plan — the free one can't add it.
